This cast must only be used when there is an upstream wind, otherwise there is a very good chance that the wind will blow the fly into the caster and cause an injury. The cast is very easy to execute and for this reason it can be learnt very quickly by beginners. It can provide a very wide change of direction and can be used very effectively for lifting the fly-line from the dangle and casting directly across the river at an angle of 90 degrees. A strong wind will assist in carrying the fly-line and pulling it through the rod-rings.
