Downsream of Hereford Bridge is Cathedral Pool which used to be netted for salmon years ago and still produces the occasional fish (20 pounder in 2009).

Most of the fishing rights around the city of Hereford belong to the Hereford and District Angling Association and in its heyday the water's belonging to the club produced good numbers of Salmon. Eign Bridge and the Vineyard was the most popular stretch, with the Brewers Arms the local weighing station, nearby. During one exceptional day, during the early seventies, 27 fish were landed by club members at this one spot alone.

Below Hereford there are lots of famous and well known fisheries - too many to mention them all but some of the more noteworthy are Hampton Bishop (the Carrots) made famous by the diaries and books of J Arthur Hutton, Lower Red Bank (Ox Ford), Holme Lacy, Fownhope, The Doctor's Water (Guy's Hospital) and Caradoc.
