Between Rhayader and Builth Wells the river Wye falls approximately 250ft, and so there are lots of interesting runs and pools, which are ideal for holding brown trout and grayling. The Salmon can also be found in this stretch, having taken the opportunity to run up the river whenever there has been high water, throughout the season. They also make their redds here, during the months of November and December.

The river Wye at Llanwrthwl

This is a very pretty part of the river in an area of peace and tranquility which is often sought by fly fishers. Wading is relatively easy, especially during the summer time, with easy access to most parts of the river.
